Analgesic

An analgesic is a type of medication that is used to relieve pain without causing unconsciousness. Analgesics work by blocking pain signals in the body, either by reducing inflammation or by affecting the way the brain perceives pain.

There are different types of analgesics, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen, which reduce pain by reducing inflammation, and opioids, such as morphine and codeine, which work by affecting the way the brain perceives pain.

Other types of analgesics include local anesthetics, which numb a specific area of the body, and acetaminophen, which is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever. It is important to use analgesics only as directed by a healthcare professional, as some types can be habit-forming or cause side effects if used improperly.
